DM Entry: Shackled City

We left the game on a cliffhanger.

What is the fate and condition of the real Osiris that we all have come to know and love?

While we are on the topic of Osiris, what is the fate of the fake Osiris that we thought we knew? How long has he been the fake Osiris? And who is he really?

The party finds themselves in a cold environment, on a ledge in a now-quiet room where they had only moments ago been fighting against a dracolich. Its bones now littering the unseen depths below the ledge. A dark place where Osiris also lays, his crumpled body shackled in a cage, desiccated, malnutritioned, and otherwise abused. Alive? Its hard to say, but when we last had eyes on him, he was alive.

Within the lingering light provided by some spell cast by Korinth the cleric of Pelor for the battle against the dracolich, metallic glints reflect back from the darkness below. Undoubtedly the dragon's hoard and the cage where the real Osiris' body now lies.

At the last moment of the battle, when dead silence falls upon the area and cloistering darkness threatens to envelop all within the chamber, a single verbal component rings out as the fake Osiris vanishes from sight, no doubt teleporting to some unknown place of safety. With any luck it will be a season and a day before he shows his face (or anyone else's face) around the party again.

Bonus magic item to be discovered within the hoard:
Leave a comment on this blog post describing your idea about the condition/fate of the real Osiris AS WELL AS your thoughts on when the fake Osiris joined the party. If you do, you will have a chance to Dice-Off for a special magic item that lies within the dracolich's hoard. Dice-Off will happen after the hoard is claimed by the party.

Well I believe that there is a possiblty that the real Osiris could still be alive, but he could have broken bones or bleeding out. We should try to get him back to the surface as soon as possible, because he probably needs the cleric to heal him. But on the other hand I seen "Osiris" dragging someone to the dracolich and he said he was helping the person he was dragging and I believed every word of it. So I believe that Fate thinks that the fake Osiris is down in the pit and the real one teleported away. So I think that Fate would say: leave the Osiris that's in the pit and we need to find and help the one that teleported away.(That's because he bluffed and I failed my sense motive. So I belived that he was some how helping the party.)

I'm leaving this comment because I truly think the real Osiris is alive. Being such a well prepared and crafty wizard, I find it difficult to believe, despite the circumstances, that he would not have a back plan or spell in place just in case. And this is the just in case! With that said, I think it would take some time before the party could fully trust him again but I think he would do everything in his power to clear his name and swear to never let someone else be in control of his fate. He would vow to become stronger so he could protect the ones he loved and cared about and not need to rely on someone else. Truly not sure what fate has in store for Osiris but I do think that he will be consumed, at least for some time, with getting his revenge at some point. Either in this world or the next! Since I know when the imposter joined the party I have no comment on it.

I agree with that.

I do like both of these comments, great insights on both of these.

I believe the real Osiris died by the breath of the dracolich. That is why the cleric has prepared spells to bring him back from the dead and is willing to pay the cost in diamonds. While the wizard is crafty and resourceful, he is still a wizard. He must have access to his spellbook and components in order to use his powers. As a prisoner he probably was not able to do that.
As far as when the fake Osiris joined us, I think it would probably have had to be when we lost sight or contact with the wizard. Which only really happens when we go back to Cauldron and Osiris visits his school on his own.
