That's interesting that you bring this up. I have been toying with a Domain Druid myself as well. What I have come up with is sorta the same, except instead of losing wild shape, you lose animal companion. The domain druid would gain +1 spell slot per spell level strictly for the use of preparing a domain spell in (just as a cleric). The domain druid would choose a terrain focus, and then 2 of that terrain's associated domains.
pathfinder did a similar trade but its a bit weak sauce and lake the versatility you need if your giving up a very powerful class feature like animal companion or wild shape
