RTEL: ECL 9 Mithil Human Wizard 9: Journal Entry 4

Mithil tried to look nonchalant as she leaned against the cart but she was worried.  How had she gotten here!? She remembered drawing the cross-bow and, obviously, the dragon was dead or she would not be standing here, but she did not remember anything else.  How they killed the dragon and how she made her way back to this cart?

It was all a complete blank!

Her aunt had warned her of a history of mental problems in her family.  She had said it like it was a matter of family pride, "you know Mith, some of the best wizards in all of history where stark, raving, bonkers!"

Was she bonkers?

Fluteria looked at her with concern.

"Well, do you know what happened either?"

The butterfly gave an almost indecipherable shake of her head.

Relegated to cart duty too!  It was humiliating.  A stable boy could handle this duty.  Did her comrades think so little of her?  Why would they waste her vast talent on cart duty?

She went over Hilvin's inventory of the cart's contents.  Damn this is boring!  She could not leave the party's possessions until the ranger returned to take what was, by all rights, his menial job.

Maybe the dragon had some magic left which had made her lose her memory?  Or, maybe, a mage had crept in from behind and, realizing she was the biggest threat, cast a spell of forgetfulness on her?

Maybe she was well on her way to becoming one of the wizards of legend?  Maybe she was sacrificing her sanity for power.  Or, maybe, those wizards were simply so intelligent that they were not understood?

She doubted any of them had been relegated to cart duty!

Mithil checked the inventory a second time and it was still accurate.  She had hoped to find some error to correct.

She looked towards the mine, straining to see the ranger coming her way from a distance.  Sighing she picked up the inventory listing one more time and started anew.
